American Exteriors Fall Energy Savers Checklist

Energy Certificate with rolls of architecture blueprint - rendering

This fall, as with every fall, saving money is always a great thing to do especially with the holiday season right around the corner. There are several things that homeowners can do in order to make their home more energy efficient.

Here are 7 tasks to check off the list in order to make your home more cozy this fall and winter season.

Interior Tasks

1. Get your heater systems checked and cleaned

Maintenance of the heater and boiler systems are crucial to an energy efficient home in the winter.

2. Ensure that you have sufficient insulation in your home

Check the insulation in your attic, basement and if possible, the walls of your home. Thickness levels vary for the different parts of the country but the correct level of insulation will do much to reduce the energy loss to your home. Click Here to check for the recommended levels of insulation in your area.

3. Replace air filters in your HVAC

A dirty air filter is the #1 reason for HVAC system failure. A dirty filter restricts the air flow into your HVAC systems air handler. This restricted air flow places additional strain on the air handler fan motor and could, over time, burn out the motor and cause your system to overheat and ultimately fail.

4. Thoroughly Clean All Vents

Check ventilation systems to ensure that they are free from obstruction. Also, remember that heat rises so vents on the main level or near the floor should be opened to maximum capacity to improve the efficiency of the heater unit.

Exterior Tasks

5. Trim & Bush Trimming

With the cold of winter, the sap in trees or the weight of snow can cause the branches to snap and break potentially causing damage to cars or vulnerable spots of the home,

6. Switch Out Screens for Storm Windows

Check the condition of the windows. Are there noticeable gaps around the metal or wooden frame of the window? Is the caulk peeling or cracked? Are the cracks in the glass? Fall is a great time to consider energy efficient vinyl windows. American Exteriors LLC is certainly available to come out and give you additional information. Give us a call at 1.800.7window

7. Sprinkler System Maintenance

Blow out the sprinkler system. You might need to call a professional to handle this. Also, drain and coil the garden hoses

By using this checklist to prepare your home for the fall season, you can rest assured that your home is in a great condition as the cold season approaches.
